What can people expect from Renaissance or Nexus?
Our Renaissance and Nexus programs provide individual and group therapy and support for people who use abuse in intimate relationships. Using a narrative approach, the goal is to help you take responsibility for your actions, change your abusive behaviors, and create the healthy relationships you seek. Renaissance is the group program for people who identify as men, and Nexus is the group program for people who identify as women.

The program includes intake, clinical assessment, therapeutic prep sessions and a 16 week group therapy program and individual support. Intake, assessment and prep appointments take place during office hours. Weekly group sessions are 2.5 hours long and take place in the evening from 6:30-9:00.

We help you engage in positive strategies for emotional regulation, increase distress tolerance and improve conflict resolution in intimate relationships. Narrative therapy helps you evaluate your beliefs, thoughts and actions, and learn to engage in respectful behaviors that improve relationships.

In each session we will explore a theme related to emotional safety or relationship skills. We trust that the more you put into the group, the more you will take home. Our goal is to help you gain the skills to build a strong, healthy connection with yourself and others.

Where is the service?
The service is located in Grande Prairie. Intakes, assessments and prep sessions are done in person at the John Howard Society office, while groups are currently being offered on-line.

Call or email us to book an intake appointment where you will fill out forms and we will schedule you for an assessment appointment with a Case Manager.
